A new 32-bed hospital for adult men and women, offering specialist care for mental health conditions, has opened in Kings Norton

Kings Norton Hospital is located at the site of Oakleaf Nursing Home in Wharf Road. The 32-bed facility is now open to help men and women with mental health conditions.

The hospital has been converted into a high-quality, dedicated facility for patients. It has two 10-bed acute wards – one each for male and female patients – and a 12-bed psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU).

The hospital is owned by the Active Care Group, which says it has invested in the latest technology for the hospital, including a state-of-the-art system to support clinical observations.

The hospital has a multi-disciplinary medical team, led by Medical Director Dr Yousuf Zakaria, and Hospital Director Kerry George. The team offers specialist care in psychology and occupational therapy and is supported by operational staff including therapists, housekeepers, and maintenance personnel.

Created in response to the significant demand for additional mental health care services supporting adults in the region, the hospital will provide 32 beds for adult patients with acute mental health conditions.

What’s been said about the new hospital?

Dr Amit Chatterjee, Chief Medical Officer for ACG said: “We are delighted that the new hospital in Kings Norton is now open. The facility will ensure that high-quality acute care is delivered to our patients at the right time and in the right environment. “The hospital will be an integral part of the community and help to ease the pressure on acute mental health services in the area. It will bring about real improvements in care and experience for our patients, as well as a better working environment for our staff.”
