At Conifer Lodge, residents have creatively recreated a social experience loved by so many in their garden. The Conifer Arms, a pub built by the maintenance team during the COVID-19 pandemic, has become an place where residents can socialise, develop new skills, and enjoy a feeling of belonging to a community.
The idea came from the residents who were missing their regular pub outings, a routine that played a big part in their social lives. With the money raised through garden events, the team worked together to build a bar where residents could continue to enjoy the atmosphere of a local pub in a safe and familiar setting.
Complete with snacks, drinks, a jukebox, table football, darts, and board games, the Conifer Arms is more than just a place to relax, the pub is a place for residents to gain valuable life and work experience.
Every Friday, residents take turns behind the bar, learning to take orders, manage stock, and serve drinks. These activities help develop confidence, communication skills, and independence in a practical, enjoyable way.
