At Conifer Lodge, our residential service for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Cambridgeshire, the team recently enjoyed a fantastic team-building day, bringing together both the individuals we support and colleagues for a morning of challenges and creativity.
The day was full of activities designed to test patience, build trust, and strengthen communication.
In one game, staff held the ends of ribbons attached to a single pen and had to work together to carefully write a word on a sheet of paper – not as easy as it sounds when everyone’s pulling in different directions!
Another challenge had staff start in a circle, backs turned, hands joined, with the aim of untangling themselves without letting go. It quickly became a test of problem-solving and collaboration, with plenty of trial and error (and laughter along the way).
A third game saw pencils become tools for guiding a ball from one bottle to another – drop the ball, and you’re back to the start.
What made the day special wasn’t just the fun and games, but the way everyone – colleagues and the individuals we support alike – felt supported and encouraged.
