Steve Brown, Lived Experience Director for Active Neuro, recently visited patients and colleagues at our Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre.
Nottingham Neurological Rehabilitation Centre specialises in the treatment, care, and support of individuals aged 18 and over with physical and cognitive impairments resulting from brain injury or other progressive neurological conditions.
The highlights of Steve’s visit included sitting down over lunch for a Q&A session with the patients and their families. The lunch was a way for Steve to introduce himself and share his life and career journey. Steve also spoke about his role within Active Neuro and why lived experience matters in shaping services.
Speaking about his visit, Steve said, “I was struck from the moment I arrived by how warmly I was welcomed. The team greeted me with genuine enthusiasm and professionalism, and it was immediately clear that this is a place where people care deeply about the work they do and the individuals they support.
Everyone was brilliant, curious, thoughtful, and willing to share their perspectives. Hearing about their experiences directly reinforced why our work is so important.
As I moved around the site, the chemistry and teamwork between colleagues stood out. They support everyone with a balance of respect, empathy, and good humour. Their commitment to helping people progress and regain independence is evident in every interaction.”.
