“Helping the individuals we support to learn and grow, enabling them to have an enjoyable and engaging life.”

That’s the aim of Moorpark Place, our residential service for adults with autism and learning disabilities in North Ayrshire.

One such example of an individual enjoying life is Sean.

Sean has made significant progress since moving to Moorpark Place. During COVID-19, Sean’s routine changed, so to keep him engaged, his support worker, Guy, thought of a new idea to fill the void. Sean started engaging in physical activities that kept him fit and happy. He began with regular walks in the local area, eventually progressing to running and climbing mountains like Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike.

Sean’s determination and enthusiasm have seen him continue the challenges. Recently, Sean achieved an incredible feat by climbing two Munros in a single day – Ben More and Stob Binnein! For those unfamiliar, a “Munro” is a mountain in Scotland standing over 3,000 feet (914 meters), a term coined by Sir Hugh Munro in 1891.

Guy takes up the story:

“Ben More was a mountain that I failed to reach twenty years ago, but with Sean at my side and his determination, we made it to the top of Ben More.

Once we had climbed Ben More, we walked down the other side to reach another Munro called Stob Binnein.

It was a great day out with great weather, and Sean loved it.”

Sean’s remarkable achievements – from walking local routes to conquering two Munros in a single day – showcase his dedication and determination.

His journey is an inspiring reminder of the heights we can reach when fuelled by passion and perseverance.

Well done, Sean!
