Ruth Smith promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Active Care Group

The Montreux Healthcare Fund has promoted Ruth Smith to Chief Executive Officer of Active Care Group – provider of rehabilitation and complex care services for children, young people and adults.

Ruth served as the group’s chief operating officer (COO) following the acquisition in 2019 of Christchurch Group, a provider of neurorehabilitation services for patients with acquired brain injury, spinal injury and other neurological conditions, where she was CEO.

During her time as COO at Active Care Group, Smith led a restructure of the six group divisions spanning residential and supported living, care in the home, Christchurch rehabilitation services, Remeo respiratory services, case management and Jane Lewis Healthcare Recruitment Solutions.

She began her career as a specialist brain injury rehabilitation nurse and progressed into quality assurance, health and social care management positions.

Ruth said: ‘I’m thrilled to be leading our excellent team who between them boast 30 years of specialist knowledge and experience in managing complex conditions including ventilation and respiratory, spinal injury, brain injury, epilepsy, neurological conditions and learning disabilities.

‘All staff employ an innovative, holistic, user-centred approach designed to help individuals to progress towards a more independent future and to lead their best life. I’m proud to be at the helm.’

The Active Care Group, created in 2019, brings together more than 40 care providers to form an integrated healthcare business focused on complex care, employing over 4,000 staff, who support more than 2,000 clients, across 60-plus locations in England, Scotland and Wales.
