We last caught up with Patty just over a year ago, and it certainly seems like she hasn’t slowed down one bit since then!
Patty was 50 years old when she suffered a heart attack that changed her way of life, resulting in her having both physical and mental disabilities on-going.
Our dedicated Care in the Home team has been supporting her since 2017, assisting her with personal care, meal preparation, household management, and shopping, which enables her to stay active in her local community and beyond.
Care in the Home support has transformed Patty’s quality of life; where she previously rarely left home, she’s now able to participate in many activities that reflect her diverse interests and growing confidence, and sense of purpose, channelling her personal experiences into advocacy work, and becoming a campaigner and writer focused on action against violence.
Patty has also embraced a diverse range of creative and cultural interests and outlets, such as painting classes, becoming a member of her local choir, attending theatre performances, and visiting art galleries in London.
Her physical capabilities also continue to develop, as demonstrated by her participation in the challenging ‘Wheeling for December’ 5K event.
Patty has travelled extensively, having visited her sister in Australia last year with the help of her Care in the Home team, and is currently making plans to visit the USA to see more of her family.
“The care I receive allows me to do anything I want to do and go wherever I like when I like. I have a great team!”
Patty’s own words are testimony to what quality care means to her; it provides her with independence and a wonderful quality of life living in her own home and having the confidence to experience many more adventures.
The Care in the Home team strives to enable all those in their care to lead happy and fulfilling lives at home.
