To celebrate Bonfire Night the team at our Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre held a day of bonfire themed baking and a firework sensory experience for the patients.
The team wanted to facilitate an event that patients would experience in their normal life to promote positive mental health and to provide fun!
In the morning the patients enjoyed baking bonfire themed cakes. They also had hot chocolate and marshmallows.
In the afternoon the patients experienced a firework display in the form of firework images and sensory music.
Patients enjoyed the lights, gentle sounds, stimulation and it helped with relaxation in the body and mind.
Patients who were more high functioning also enjoyed a Guy Fawkes quiz and socialising with their peers. This helped to support their language development and they were able to learn something new.
There were plenty of smiles and patients told the staff that they really enjoyed the day.
