We are pleased to share that Ivetsey Bank Hospital, our child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) hospital based in Staffordshire, recently hosted an open day to mark the opening of the Glazewood Unit – a six-bed Admissions and Triage Unit (ATU) for young people. This is the first unit of its type in the country.

Among the guests were commissioners and senior members of the Active Care Group leadership team, including Chief Executive Officer Keith Browner, who carried out the official opening.

Ivetsey Bank Hospital supports young people aged 12-17 with diagnosed mental health conditions.

The Glazewood Unit has been developed to provide a safe and responsive space for young people, aged 12-17, experiencing a mental health crisis, particularly where an inpatient bed is not immediately available or another setting is no longer appropriate. The service offers a short-term place of safety, often accessed out of hours, – where young people can receive timely assessment and therapeutic support.

Colleagues at Glazewood will work closely with the young person, their carers, and external teams to support a return to the community with an appropriate care package as soon as possible,- ideally within seven days, and no later than 14 days. Where ongoing support is required, the team will liaise with all stakeholders to ensure the right next step is implemented.

Keith Browner, Chief Executive Officer at Active Care Group said, “The opening of the Glazewood Unit marks an important step in how we respond to young people.

It provides a safe, calm space at a time when it’s most needed, and gives our teams the chance to act quickly, assess thoroughly, and support the next steps in care.

We’re proud of what has been achieved at Ivetsey Bank Hospital and the difference the unit will make for the people we support and their families.”
