Whalley Road in Accrington, Lancashire, is a specialist residential home providing nursing care, support and rehabilitation to adult males with a mental illness or learning disability. Some of our residents stay with us longer-term, others just for a short time before moving on.

Whalley Road is a house situated in Accrington, Lancashire. We have nine en-suite bedrooms and a large garden. Our residents and their families are completely involved in developing their own care plans and in choosing the way they live their lives.
We work closely with each resident to help build their skillset and help them to be more independent in everyday life. At Whalley Road, we’re committed to supporting our residents to be independent, confident, and resilient. We have a specialist team that provides our residents the opportunity to grow and maintain a healthy level of good physical and mental wellbeing.
We understand that all the people we support have different needs, so alongside their key workers, families, and medical professionals we ensure the support we provide is bespoke in every detail.
Each person has a comprehensive support plan which covers every aspect of their care and support, taking in to account any concerns and issues that may arise and ensuring all needs and requirements are met enabling them to live the very best life possible. We are experienced in setting up bespoke, high quality packages of care and are committed to providing a person-centred, goal-focused approach which measures the outcomes set with each individual client.
We support adult males aged 18 years and older who have been diagnosed with a mental health condition or learning disability.
Our primary aim is to help individuals improve to a point where they are able to move on from our service. We aim to build confidence through the learning of new skills and encouraging the individuals in our care to try out new hobbies and activities. By believing in better, we help our residents to achieve more every day and to continue to develop and grow.
Our team are experienced in supporting adult males with mental health conditions and learning disabilities. We want every individual we look after to feel as if they are being supported by a family member and to feel completely at home and at ease in our service. Our core values are commitment to putting the individual at the heart of everything we do, providing a seamless and personalised and reflects the users wishes hopes and expectations taking the time to get it right.

9 bedrooms over 3 floors
At Whalley Road we offer residency for up to nine people to stay with us, allowing us them to fully focus on their recovery.
En-suite bathrooms
We have en-suite facilities meaning each resident has the upmost privacy when in our care allowing them their own personal space.
Lounge area
There is a large lounge area allowing for residents to convene and to interact in a communal setting during their recovery.
Kitchen/dining area
Whalley Road has a large kitchen/dining area for communal eating where everyone is encouraged to convene.
Large garden
We have a large secure garden where residents are encouraged to cultivate plant life whilst learning new skills in the process.
Multi-disciplinary team
All our residents have access to our dedicated multi-disciplinary team throughout their stay with us.
Meet the team
Saffron Youds
Saffron Youds
Saffron became the service manager of Blackburn Road in 2021. Prior to this, Saffron had eight years’ experience working in forensic mental health settings, such as secure hospitals and locked rehabilitation units. She also had four years’ experience working in physical health settings such as NHS wards and neuro rehabilitation units.
Saffron qualified with a degree in occupational therapy, allowing her to focus on her passion of improving both the mental and physical health of the residents she works with, alongside promoting holistic care and engaging residents in positive activities to promote their independence.
Since qualifying Saffron has worked as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), in both mental and physical health settings.
Saffron has recently taken on the role of dual manager of Blackburn Road and Whalley Road, our adult mental health services in Lancashire. She is excited to lead both teams, as we continue to strive for excellence across the northwest mental health services.
Aimmie Perry
Aimmie Perry
Aimmie started her career working as a support worker at the National Autistic Society, while studying for an undergraduate degree in psychology. Aimmie then went on to gain her master’s in psychology and gained some experience working as an assistant psychologist. After graduating, Aimmie pursued a career supporting 16–18-year-olds with behavioural challenges. Aimmie joined Active Care Group as an assistant psychologist in 2020, and has worked for Blackburn Road, Whalley Road and Oswald House ever since.
Bea Kay
Bea Kay
Bea has been with Active Care Group for more than 12 years. She started at our Blackburn Road specialist residential care home in Lancashire as a support worker for adults with diagnosed mental health conditions. After having back surgery, Bea was welcomed by Active Care Group to take on the role of Activities Co-ordinator for all three Adult Mental Health services in the area (including Oswald House). Bea is an invaluable team member, and it is clear to see that she really enjoys her role in helping our residents to use their imagination and try new activities.
With an education in Art and Design and as a passionate crafter, Bea is well equipped to support our residents in discovering their creative side. Bea also has a keen interest in Meditation and Mindfulness and has trained in Aromatherapy. Bea’s holistic mindset and positive outlook also means that she is the ideal person to help our residents to reduce anxiety and stress by experiencing different practices such as breathing methods and guided imagery for instance that would help to relax the body and mind.
