Specialist care and support of physical and cognitive impairments.
Located in Hucknall on the outskirts of Nottingham, we specialise in the treatment, care and support of individuals aged 18 and over with physical and cognitive impairments as a result of brain injury or other progressive neurological conditions. With three distinct, yet complementary, services on one site, we offer flexible care options from our specialist on-site team.
Our clinical team is highly trained in the rehabilitation and care of adults with brain injuries and other neurological conditions. They are supported by a team of housekeeping, catering, maintenance and administration staff.
Patients are able to access local adapted swimming and hydrotherapy services and have various outdoor areas at the service to enjoy.
We have links with a local spasticity clinic allowing to support those who require Botox treatment.
Fernwood (22 beds) — High dependency rehabilitation
Fernwood is for individuals with particularly complex nursing care needs. Patients may have tracheostomies, required assisted ventilation or may present with a persistent disorder of consciousness. We also care for individuals who may be in the end stage of a progressive neurological illness. Patients have access to input from the therapy team as standard. Individualised therapy or rehabilitation package tailored to individual needs and goals are also available. Fernwood is also able to provide tracheostomy weaning programmes on-site, where clinically indicated.
Millwood (23 beds) — Neurorehabilitation
Millwood is for patients who have undergone acute rehabilitation and require further therapy input to reach their optimum level of recovery. We provide a range of rehabilitation therapies to help people relearn and practice everyday skills to give them the best chance of a return home.
Hazelwood (14 beds) — Non-complex care and neurorehabilitation
While residents on Hazelwood have access to 24-hour nursing input from our diverse and skilled specialist nursing team, our primary focus on Hazelwood is the care and rehabilitation of individuals with no or low level nursing needs. The service is suitable for people who as a result of brain injury are unable to live at home independently, require round the clock support to manage everyday tasks, support to keep themselves safe and maintain their overall wellbeing and quality of life through performance and participation in activities of daily living and social and recreational activities. We can also offer bespoke rehabilitation and therapy packages from our specialist in-house therapy team.
Our multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
Our highly skilled MDT team includes a hospital director, unit managers, consultant medical doctors, neuropsychologist, head of therapies, nurses (RGNS and RMNS), occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, assistant psychologist, therapy assistants, activity coordinators.

Michael Jones
Michael Jones
Michael began his career at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre as an activity coordinator. During his role, Michael began working with occupational therapists. He was fascinated by the use of elements of psychology alongside practical interventions within a framework of function. Michael decided to retrain in occupational therapy at Derby University and left the company briefly to begin his occupational therapy practice.
Two years later, an occupational therapy role became available at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre which Michael applied for and was successful.
Michael then worked his way up until an opportunity arose for the head of therapies role.
Nick Sobieraj
Nick Sobieraj
Nick originally trained and worked as an actor, but he decided he wanted a fresh start in a new career. He thought about counselling and psychology but eventually chose speech and language therapy. He then studied speech and language therapy at De Montfort University in Leicester.
After his degree, Nick went to work in children’s services in Leicester, but realised he wanted to work with adults as well. This led to his role as speech and language therapist at Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre where he has now been for seven years.
