The psychology team from Kings Norton Hospital, our acute mental health service in Birmingham, recently attended and presented at the British Psychological Society West and East Midlands Branch Annual Conference.
Titled the Festival of Psychology, the conference celebrated psychology research and practice within the Midlands.
The team presented their poster, a pilot study on the efficacy of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) groups within the acute ward setting. The poster replicated previous findings, which demonstrate the benefits of CFT in the acute ward at King’s Norton Hospital.
King’s Norton Hospital provides high-quality intensive treatment for up to thirty-two patients across three specialist wards. The hospital recently celebrated its Care Quality Commission (CQC) overall rating of ‘Good’ after its first inspection.
Commenting on the event, Kate Moule, Assistant Psychologist at King’s Norton Hospital, said, “In our service evaluation, we found that patients reported significant increases in calmness after participating in our ward-based CFT groups, and we recommend promoting the use of CFT as a beneficial psychological intervention in the acute ward setting”.
