Kingly House, our neurological rehabilitation and residential service in Leicestershire, has been awarded a ‘Good’ rating in their latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, marking a significant improvement from its previous ‘Requires improvement’ report in 2019. They were rated “Good’ overall and “Good” across all five key lines of enquiry (KLOEs).
The recent assessment, conducted between 10 and 18 October 2024, commended Kingly House for several key areas:
- Staffing improvements: they have successfully recruited and trained new staff, ensuring they are well-supported and effectively deployed to meet residents’ care and support needs consistently.
- Learning culture: a strong emphasis on learning from incidents has been established, leading to enhanced safety measures and improved experiences for residents.
- Health and wellbeing focus: staff actively monitor residents’ health, supporting them in following healthcare professionals’ advice and treatment plans to maintain and improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
- Person-centred care: residents are treated with kindness and compassion, with their preferences, likes, and dislikes being well-understood by staff. Activities and hobbies are tailored to individual interests, promoting a sense of personal identity and fulfilment.
- Inclusive management: The management team actively seeks to address barriers to accessing services, fosters a positive and inclusive culture that supports both residents and staff.
Service Manager Ida Chatburn expressed her pride in the team’s achievements, saying, “I feel incredibly proud that Kingly House’s overall CQC rating has improved from ‘Requires improvement’ to ‘Good’. It’s been a challenging few years for us as a service, but we have remained focused and persistent with our goal to improve the service and the lives of people in our care.
“Therefore, it’s great that our hard work, commitment, and sheer determination have been recognised by our regulator. We will continue to work hard to continue to improve Kingly House and the experiences people have of using our service. We are determined to be the best service we can be for people with brain injuries, Huntington’s disease, and neurological conditions.
