International Day of Persons with Disabilities is taking place on Sunday 3 December 2023. The day aims to raise public awareness and promote understanding of disability issues and increase support for the dignity, rights and well-being of disabled people.
The theme for 2023 is ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goals for, with and by disabled people.’
In celebration, we want to take the opportunity to highlight the amazing achievements of our residents at Conifer Lodge, our adult learning disabilities service in Cambridgeshire. Conifer Lodge is a CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ specialist service for men with a learning disability or who are on the autistic spectrum.
Recently Conifer Lodge received an interactive tablet for the residents. The majority of the residents had never used electronic devices before, so they enjoyed trying something different. The tablet has made a huge impact as it allows our residents to learn new skills.
Adrian, pictured above, quickly learnt how to use the tablet and enjoyed himself immensely. The game he was playing promoted memory and coordination skills which many of the resident’s struggle with.
Another resident at Conifer Lodge, pictured above, has been taking part in a weekly cooking group at the service. The cooking group encourages those we support to learn cooking skills and to have the confidence to cook their own delicious and nutritious meals. In this session, the resident is working hard at making jam tarts.
Conifer Lodge is proud to be promoting independence and empowering residents to engage confidently in day-to-day activities and life skills.
