Woodlands, our neurological rehabilitation service in York, has launched Woodies Goodies – a new in-house shop designed to help patients develop essential skills in a supportive environment.

The shop, which is open twice weekly, stocks toiletries, snacks, and drinks and allows patients to serve customers and handle money.

For many patients recovering from brain injuries, everyday activities like shopping can be daunting.

Woodies Goodies offers a safe and structured space to shop, building confidence and independence. Patients gain experience in communication, numeracy, social interaction, and responsibility – all vital steps towards greater independence.

Alongside these practical benefits, the shop fosters community within the Woodlands service.

The patients, visitors, and staff can enjoy the space, which promotes social connection and well-being.

With Woodies Goodies’ success, we look forward to seeing the continued growth of the patients from Woodlands.
