Delphi Care Solutions, an independent care consultancy company, recently conducted a two-day unannounced mock quality inspection at Hothfield, our neurological rehabilitation and care centre in Kent.
The purpose of a mock quality inspection is to assess the quality of care provided and identify areas for improvement in a realistic setting, as it would be for a Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessment. It gives the team and the service valuable feedback to make the improvements necessary to enhance the quality of care we provide to the patients and residents at Hothfield. Using an independent company to conduct the mock inspections provides an unbiased perspective and ensures that the care provided meets high standards without internal influence.
We’re delighted that the overall rating for Hothfield following the mock inspection was ‘Good’ overall and ‘Good’ across all five key lines of enquiry. Below are some of the highlights taken from the mock report:
Safe
Our Registered Manager, Denise Benson, has been reported to have made progress in improving the service and is committed to promoting a proactive and positive safety culture, based on openness, honesty and a dedication to continuous learning.
Effective
Staff spoken to have the necessary information to provide appropriate care, treatment, and support. It was reported that the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) worked closely together, and patients and residents were supported to be as independent as possible, promoting their confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Caring
The report shared that a consistently kind and compassionate approach was observed, demonstrating that individuals were treated with respect and dignity. Staff used gentle, calm voices and engaged in friendly, appropriate communication with residents. Staff were described as, “friendly” and “approachable”.
Responsive
Care was reported to be delivered in a person-centred manner, with staff demonstrating kindness, compassion, and attentiveness. Staff provided individualised care, understood individual’s preferences, and provided appropriate support. Staff appeared genuinely invested in ensuring that patients and residents felt comfortable and respected in every interaction.
Well-led
Hothfield was said to exhibit a commitment to fostering a positive culture with a shared direction centred on delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Staff reported a positive working environment and an appreciation of management support. There is an open communication channel and staff felt encouraged to contribute ideas. Leadership was perceived as approachable, compassionate, and supportive.
