We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gemma Gilbert as the Registered Manager for Applewood Lodge, our soon-to-open specialist complex care residential service for children.
Located in Staffordshire, the 4-bed service for children aged up to 18 will provide 24-hour care, allowing them to meet their social and educational needs in a secure, safe environment.
Gemma brings a wealth of experience from her extensive nursing career, which has spanned paediatric A&E, inpatient wards, CAMHS, and high-dependency units. Her background has provided her with a deep understanding of children’s health needs, from managing life-threatening emergencies to supporting those with complex, long-term conditions.
Most recently, Gemma worked as a Safeguarding Nurse for children in care, where she witnessed firsthand the systemic challenges faced by some of the most vulnerable young people. This experience inspired her to specialise in safeguarding, ensuring every child receives the protection and advocacy they deserve.
With extensive training in exploitation, domestic violence, and safeguarding practice, Gemma approaches her work with empathy, resilience, and a commitment to holistic, child-centred care.
Speaking about her new role, Gemma shared:
“I am thrilled to join Active Care Group and to lead Applewood Lodge from the very beginning. My goal is to help build a home where every child feels a true sense of belonging – a place that mirrors the security and emotional support of a family environment.”
Applewood Lodge is currently being carefully prepared for opening, with every detail focused on creating a welcoming, child-friendly atmosphere that supports growth, healing, and happiness.
We are proud to have Gemma join the ACG family and look forward to seeing the positive impact her leadership will bring to Applewood Lodge and the children who will call it home.
