Last week Woodland Court, our Supported Living Service in Surrey, held a Family and Carer’s event giving families a chance to meet one another, spend time with their loved ones, and enjoy a range of activities and games.
There was a resident and staff band performance at the event which was a great addition to the day. The band ‘No Issues’ was started by David Williams, Service Manager, and Bernadette Perlaki, Senior Support Worker. In the weeks leading up to the event, regular practice sessions took place with residents on vocals and percussion and David and Bernadette on guitar and drums.
David Williams said:
“At Woodland Court, we started some music quizzes as part of our daily catch ups. During these quizzes you could see how passionate people were about music, and how positive it was just sharing and listening to our favourite tracks. This quickly moved on to wanting to make some music ourselves. So, we formed an open band (anyone can join anytime). The band’s first public performance was at our Family and Carer’s event recently.
“It is difficult to put words to how it felt, so I will leave that to the composer Fredrick Delius who said: ‘Music is an outburst of the Soul.’”
