At Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York, the therapy team is always striving to find innovative ways to support our patients on their journey to recovery. Recently, they’ve had the exciting opportunity work with our company Neural Pathways, a leading provider of specialist neurological rehabilitation services and equipment, to trial some cutting-edge therapy devices from Thor Technologies.

The team has been working with three ground-breaking pieces of equipment: the ArmMotus M2 PRO, Luna EMG, and Exomotus M4. These tools have provided us with a whole new dimension of interactive and dynamic therapy.

How the equipment enhances our rehabilitation programmes

The introduction of this technology has enabled the team at Woodlands to deliver more engaging and measurable therapy sessions. Here’s how each piece of equipment has contributed to our patients’ progress:

ArmMotus M2 PRO: This advanced robotic arm rehabilitation device helps patients with upper limb impairments. The interactive technology offers real-time visual feedback, creating a more immersive and enjoyable experience for patients. It assists in performing repetitive tasks, which are essential for neuroplasticity and recovery, while also tracking progress with accurate data.

Luna EMG: This device monitors muscle activation and provides biofeedback, enabling both the patient and therapist to understand the muscle activity better during movement. With precise tracking of muscle engagement, the Luna EMG has become an invaluable tool for assessing muscle performance and guiding rehabilitation exercises more effectively.

Exomotus M4: Focusing on lower limb rehabilitation, this wearable robotic device supports walking exercises, helping patients regain mobility and strength. Its real-time feedback and programmable settings allow us to personalise each session, ensuring that every patient’s unique needs are addressed.

The impact on our patients

Since brining this equipment into their therapy sessions, the team at Woodlands have seen significant improvements in patient outcomes. The real-time feedback provides patients with a deeper understanding of their movements, making the sessions more engaging and empowering them to take an active role in their rehabilitation journey. The accurate outcome measures allow the team to monitor progress more effectively, tailoring each patient’s programme to their specific needs and capabilities.

The results have been promising, with patients making steady improvements in their motor skills, strength, and confidence. The technology complements the expert care provided by our skilled therapists, helping patients to work towards their rehabilitation goals more effectively.

Looking to the future

The therapy team at Woodlands have truly enjoyed the opportunity to trial this state-of-the-art equipment. It has not only enhanced their therapy programmes but has also provided invaluable insights into the growing role that technology plays in modern rehabilitation.

We are hopeful that Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre will acquire some of this equipment on a permanent basis in the future. Doing so will ensure we can continue to provide the highest quality patient-centred care and remain at the forefront of neurological rehabilitation.

At Woodlands, they are committed to empowering their patients to achieve their goals and regain independence, and we look forward to further innovations and collaborations that will help us on this journey.
