Cranley Gardens upgraded to ‘Good’ in recent CQC report

Cranley Gardens, our autism and learning disabilities residential service in Sutton, is celebrating the recent upgrade of its Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating to ‘Good’ overall following its latest inspection in January 2025.

The inspection found the service ‘Good’ across all five key areas.

Adeyemi Salawu, Registered Manager of Cranley Gardens, said: “We are so pleased with the news for Cranley Gardens. This is a great achievement, and I thank all the staff involved in making this happen.

Below are some of the highlights taken from the report:

Safe

Cranley Gardens has been recognised for its proactive and positive safety culture, which is built on openness and honesty. Staff clearly understood safety protocols, including investigating and reporting safety events effectively.

The service collaborates with healthcare partners to establish and maintain safe care systems, ensuring safety is consistently monitored and upheld. Residents at Cranley Gardens reported feeling comfortable, secure, and at ease with staff and one another.

Effective

Staff at Cranley Gardens ensured people’s effective care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, well-being, and communication needs with them. People and others involved in their care were actively involved in assessments and reviews of their care and support needs. They were listened to, and their choices and preferences were used to plan their care and support needs.

The staff were supported through training and supervision to deliver care and support to people in line with legislation, good practice and standards.

Caring

Staff saw people as their equals and created a warm and inclusive atmosphere. People appeared comfortable and confident at the service. The residents received kind and compassionate care from staff who used positive, respectful language that the residents could understand and respond well to.

Responsive

Cranley Gardens staff offered personalised, proactive, and coordinated support, helping the residents to engage regularly in their chosen social and leisure activities.

In doing so, the residents lead active lives and foster connections within the local community. The staff were also found to facilitate weekly activities while encouraging individuals to develop their independent living skills.

Well-led

Cranley Gardens had a shared vision, strategy, and culture based on transparency, equity, equality and human rights, diversity and inclusion, engagement, and understanding challenges and the needs of people and their communities. Managers at Cranley Gardens supported staff in delivering high-quality care and support to people in line with the Active Care Group’s vision and values for the service.

This final report upgrade is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the Cranley Gardens team.
