At Bramblewood Road, the individuals we support requested more than just a standard summer barbecue – they wanted an opportunity to connect with people from other Active Care Group services.

Inspired by this request, staff helped bring the idea to life, organising a larger, inclusive BBQ that brought together neighbouring services for an afternoon of fun and connection.

The idea first came up during a regular service meeting, where the individuals we support expressed a desire to socialise beyond their usual surroundings. Last year’s Christmas party, which brought together a number of services, left a lasting impression on everyone.

Services invited included our Supported Living service, Liberty Court, and our Learning and Autism residential services, Foxley Lane, Russell Hill, Mayfield Road, and Cranley Gardens. In total, five different services were represented, with each one bringing the individuals we support, along with their staff.

To make the day more interactive, Bramblewood Road staff planned a series of fun activities and friendly competitions. But rather than focusing on winners and losers, the individuals we support received a party pack, ensuring everyone felt included and valued. This approach was shaped by staff’s understanding of the different needs across services and the desire to create a supportive atmosphere.
