A moment of pride and achievement was celebrated at Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (based in South-east London) as patient Johnson officially became a British citizen.

Accompanied by Active Care Group social worker Meric, Johnson attended his citizenship ceremony at Lambeth Town Hall, marking an important milestone in his life.

Originally from Ghana, Johnson has lived in the UK for nearly 21 years, arriving in the summer of 2004. Before experiencing a stroke in October 2024, he worked as a cleaning supervisor. Following his stroke, Johnson joined Blackheath, where he has been receiving specialist rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech & language therapy.

Johnson’s enthusiasm for his citizenship ceremony was evident – he started the day early, excitedly and proudly.

Johnson’s journey at Blackheath continues as he works towards his long and short-term goals. These include improving his mobility and gaining confidence in everyday tasks such as using public transport.

Johnson’s achievement is a testament to his determination and the support of the Blackheath team, which has continued to help him reach his personal goals.

Congratulations Johnson!
