Andreous, a resident at Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, was recently discharged following months of treatment and rehabilitation after a near-critical medical event.

Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre is our South East London service, providing specialist inpatient rehabilitation for individuals with an acquired brain injury or other complex neurological conditions.

Having been admitted in November 2024 following a ruptured aneurysm, Andreous’s journey to recovery has been marked by significant improvements in his cognition, speech, and balance.

The retired barber experienced a sudden, severe headache in September 2024, accompanied by neck stiffness and facial weakness. After being admitted to King’s College Hospital in London, Andreous underwent a complex operation.

Following the surgery, Andreous was transferred to Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre for rehabilitation, where he worked tirelessly with the care team to recover. During his time at Blackheath, Andreous engaged in a comprehensive series of intensive physiotherapy sessions designed to address various aspects of his rehabilitation.

Andreous’s program included a circuit group, a walking group to improve mobility and balance, and an upper limb group that specifically targeted arm and shoulder function. Additionally, he participated in a hand function group to enhance dexterity and coordination. To complement his physical therapy, Andreous also underwent eight weeks of specialised speech and language therapy, which aimed to improve and support his overall recovery journey.

Andreous, who was completing building work at his home when the aneurysm occurred, is a beloved husband and father. His wife expressed profound gratitude to the staff at Blackheath, “We are incredibly grateful for your unwavering support. Much love. Big hugs from our family.”

The journey to recovery for Andreous highlights the compassion of the staff at Blackheath, who supported him every step of the way, as well as his determination and will to get better.

We wish you all the very best, Andreous!
