At Hothfield Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Centre, we are dedicated to supporting adults with brain injuries and other neurological conditions, empowering each resident to live the best life possible.
Recently, a group of residents enjoyed a therapeutic and engaging trip to a local garden centre. The outing offered a valuable opportunity to explore new surroundings and practice important life skills in a relaxed, supportive setting.
A highlight of the visit to the garden centre was the aquarium section, where the residents spent time observing koi carp in the outdoor ponds. For some, this required extra mobility effort, which was met with enthusiasm and determination. The group then enjoyed a break in the sunshine with tea and coffee, offering a welcome chance to relax and socialise.
The trip also supported communication goals, with one resident with expressive aphasia taking the lead in ordering drinks for the group – a fantastic achievement.
Later, the residents selected plants to brighten up their courtyard space and worked together to transport them, pay at the till, and carefully fit them into the car boot – all great exercises in planning and problem-solving.
With plenty of walking and teamwork, the day was enjoyable, and a wonderful example of how everyday activities can be therapeutic and meaningful.
