Andrew Patterson, Business Director for JSP Case Management, one of the companies in our case management division within Active Care Group, is marking his milestone 40th year with a bold and inspiring mission: to complete 12 endurance challenges across the year, each spaced no more than six weeks apart. From marathons to mountain climbs, Andrew’s journey is not just about personal achievement, it’s about raising vital funds for two charities close to his heart: Day One Trauma Support and Headway Wearside.
Day One Trauma is Active Care Group’s Case Management divisions chosen charity and they offer practical and emotional support to anyone who has experienced major trauma in the UK through their national support offer. They also provide bedside support in several Major Trauma Centres.
Headway Wearside is a registered charity covering Sunderland, that supports people who have suffered an acquired brain injury, and their families and carers. They do a number of things including running social meetings and activities chosen by service users, they give out information and support and help people with brain injury to reintegrate into community life.

With Challenge 9 successfully completed in Catterick on Saturday, 27th September, Andrew now enters the final quarter of his ambitious campaign. Although this event should have marked Challenge 10, a recent knee injury forced him to withdraw from a scheduled half marathon. Undeterred, Andrew has vowed to make up for it and ensure all 12 challenges are completed before the year ends.
A consistent and symbolic feature of Andrew’s journey has been his green t-shirt emblazoned with an ant, his chosen spirit animal. The ant, also tattooed on his forearm, represents strength, resilience, teamwork, and relentless determination. These qualities have shone through in every challenge, as Andrew continues to push his limits and overcome setbacks with quiet grit and unwavering focus. The ant has become a visual emblem of his campaign, reminding supporters and himself of the power of perseverance.
Each challenge has tested Andrew’s physical and mental resilience. From the punishing terrain to unpredictable weather, every event has brought its own set of highs and hurdles. Yet Andrew’s determination has never wavered.
The most recent feat was the Kielder Marathon, held on Sunday, 5th October. Renowned for its breathtaking scenery and demanding course, the Kielder Marathon is a true test of endurance and Andrew rose to the occasion once again.

Supporters can follow Andrew’s progress on his LinkedIn page and contribute to his fundraising efforts via his GiveWheel page: Andrew’s 40th Year Challenge. So far, he’s raised £1,550.10, with his sights firmly set on the £5,000 target.
With just a few challenges left, the finish line is in sight but the journey is far from over. Let’s rally behind Andrew as he powers through the final stages and continues to inspire with every mile.
